It's been 2 years since Gretsch shut down guitar production in Booneville, Arkansas. Still with left over bodies and necks, Baldwin needed a place to marry the left overs together. They turned to their piano factory in Juarez, Mexico. Rumor has it only were assembled here. (Do note how the label on the back of the headstock says "Assembled in Mexico" not "Made in Mexico" etc.) This guitar plays just as good as any Baldwin era White Falcon, Nashville, or Country Gentleman (of which this guitar essentially is. They took the Country Gentleman Bodies and Necks and threw Southern Belle branding on them after Chet Atkins' name was removed from all Gretsch products after 1981.) Also, I feel as though the Baldwin-era Gretschs received an unfair prejudice. If we compare the degradation say from pre-CBS to CBS Fender or McCarty Era to Norlin Era Gibson, if you pick up this guitar, it honestly may play better than your current #1. The sacrifice of quality from the Golden Era to the Baldwin Era Gretschs were little to none. In my humble opinion, it was the marketing and aesthetics that turned people off. I actually like the bolt on neck joint better than the previous double cutaway set neck joint. Those were so big. This is a part of Gretsch History. The brand famous for making the Cadillac of guitars. Trestle Bracing, Zero-Fret, 17" Archtop. 25.50" Scale Length (Like a Falcon), Laminate Maple body and 3 piece Maple-Walnut-Maple neck. 100% original with the blacktop Filtertrons, B12 Bigsby, and Baldwin era knobs all in tact. Missing a screw on the pickguard but it stays secure and doesn't move or rattle. No cracks in the wood or anything. Just lacquer cracks. Sets up fine. I have the treble side of the bridge set with the action just at 3.5/64ths (extremely low) and just plays great. (Bass side @ 5/64ths). Original Grovers. Original Hard shell case included.
