Arguably, it may very well be " The Best ". Personally, I only saw RFK on the '89 Summer Tour - but have listened ( religiously ! ) to Every-Note of this Whole Tour over the years - numerous times, and over & over. RFK was Hot ! ( specifically the 2nd night ) - but Shoreline - Buffalo - Alpine - Cal Expo & the Greek are definitely included in this '89 debate. If you're even into debating, that is. But hey, it's always fun to seek-out & chatter about that 'One ' Extra-Special Night ! on an Entire Tour where the Band just brings the heat & the muscle ... and after the 1st Set gets off to Cookin' ! - the Music just begins to Play the Band !! You know ... ' The ' Show with The-Most G.D. Magic ! overall. While, that Definitely happened at J.F.K. - and it also happened at Buffalo & Alpine Valley - and one night too at the old Cal Expo. And, the neat thing about this J.F.K. Show - is that our beloved Grateful Dead are actually being the ones ceremoniously chosen ( I suppose ? ) to (un)officially close the old creaky-concrete J.F.K. Stadium after years & years of historical concerts ( i.e. Live Aid '85, etc. ), prize-fights & loads of Eagles games ( the good ones & the real bad ones too - depending on your fan-loyalty - Ha ! ). But here's the main scoop ... Jerry Garcia was just Feelin' Great !!! & better than he had in a long while for this '89 Tour - and the power in his playing, and even his voice is just so Incredibly-Amazing ! - that it's almost ... Intimidating !?! He is just bringing the heat & soul from way-way down deep ! His Spirit - Energy - Intensity & attention to the Musical Details ( & Sound-Effects ! ) just Absolutely-Energizes ! the whole Band as a unit - and before long everybody is running on all-cylinders, at the very-top of their game. It is evident that Bob & Phil are simply joyous that Garcia is ready to go just this hard - just chompin' at the bit. It's All-Smiles ! from both B.K. & Mick - and Brent ?!? ... my goodness Brent !!! I don't want to over-spoil what happens here for you - but, I'll just go ahead and shed just-a-little-light ... as the Band Absolutely-Cooks ! a ( what looks to be 1st Set closer ) Let It Grow !! with heavy J.G. OD-1 overdrive rallies all-throughout - and then he opts to throw Brent a slow pitch which he simply crushes out of the park - Way Deep ..... " Blow Away !!!!! ". Oh my Grateful Dead !?!? And this comes on the heels of Amazingly-Hot ! ( and Hard-Jammed ! ) versions of Bucket ! - Iko ! - Rooster ! & Loser ! too !! Set 2 picks up where all of this left off, and theysimply can-not be stopped ! It's just one of those nights chock-full of G.D. " Moments of Magic !!! " : Box > Scarlet > Fire > SOTM > Drums / Space > Other One > Wharf Rat > Lovelight ! And then a heart-felt " Knockin' " to praise the much-loved J.F.K. ! - and then finally ... and lay it to rest. Just a few years ago ( again ... ) I got into - you know, one of those ... " Debates " with one of my Grate ! G.D. Buddies on whether '89 J.F.K. or '89 Buffalo was the overall " Hottest !!! " of the '89 Summer Tour. And, I was just ' routinely ' arguing my points on the Grate-ness ! of the Buffalo Show and ... I think I lost ? ( I guess ?? ) - because this is just about all that he would say to finish up this ' Dead-Chat ' : J.F.K. dude ! - J.F.K. ! - nope ... J.F.K. ! - J.F.K. !! - J.F.K. !!! No Doubt, J.F.K. ...
