Description: Lightning rod balls were not made with the chemical element mercury (Hg). Mercury is toxic and would be liquid at room temperature. Rather these balls probably have a nitrate like mirror coating underneath dark amber glass that makes it reflect gold. Logically this ball has no sun or inside moisture damage as it was never used. It has its original caps, white putty and tube. At the factory they packed newspaper in these between the tube and collars to protect the inside from moisture. There are no usage marks or in the tube as shown and the entire ball is clean. There is a very tiny bit of rust on the metal tubes seam from typical humidity in the air. There are no cracks, chips, holes or repairs in this ball as shown in the photos. I cannot find any bubbles in the glass but there may be an extremely tiny one here and there being glass over a hundred years old. The gold has some little spots here and there and is shadowy here and there as shown in the photos. These show more amber where the glass is thicker. It is 5 1/8” tall and 4 3/8” in diameter. This ball will be professionally inspected for any damage, cracks, holes or chips , packed, shipped and insured by Goin Postal personnel. They are no nonsense and will not insure a damaged item. They will use UPS Ground, FedEx or USPS for shipping and you will have to be home to sign for it. This way you can rest easy that this is a no nonsense and forthright sale. Feel free to ask any questions. No one has reproduced the Hawkeye lightning rod balls in any color. These gold Hawkeyes are hard to find and to find one never used is unheard of.
