Description: This little box is a rare and sought after example of early Tunbridge ware. This box comes with excellent provenance from the personal collection of one of the UK's experts and authors in Tunbridge Ware. The box was intended to store two reels of thread, see the little holes to the side where the thread would fit through. No more twisted thread. The box features hand painted fpink roses to the lid. The sliding lid opens to reveal the inner storage compartment, complete with its original Georgian pink paper lining and divider. The base of the box features the original owner’s inscription reading: ‘Eliza Green, her box, March 18th 1815. Ryde, Isle of Wight. When this you see remember me.’ The box was likely purchased as souvenir keep sake, perhaps at a shop near the pier that opened in Ryde in 1814.This is a charming little item with a wonderful history dating back over 200 years, perfect for the Regency era collector.Measuring: Width 3 3/8 inch (8.5 cm) by height 1 5/8 inch (4 cm).
