A handsome book written by Georgia native, Longstreet, depicts the South at the turn of the century using humorous anecdotes and hand-drawn illustrations. This book includes an engraving of the author on the back cover of the book. Provenance: This bookplate states the name Jno. B. Brownlow. It appears that this book came from the personal library of Col. John Bell Brownlow, son of prominent Governor of Tennessee (1865-1869) U.S. Senator, American Newspaper publisher Methodist minister, prisoner of war, author and lecturer, William G. Brownlow. John B. Brownlow (1839-1922) served as a colonel in the Union Army as the commander of the 9th Regiment of the Tennessee Volunteer Cavalry. Book pages show some yellowing and some dog-ear pages the cover is worn a bit. Please see pictures for condition. This book measures 7.5 inches by 4.75 inches. This book is historic for both its content and former ownership. A collector's must have!
