Philadelphia DESCRIPTION: This superb quality decorative sets have the sprays of roses & various flowers inside & outside the ramekin and on the saucer. One of the most distinctive features is the set of 3 dark, bright blue trim bands on the rim of the ramekin and on the saucer. These are next to the gold trim on the scalloped rim. There is gold trim on the foot of the ramekin. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is excellent. We find that one ramekin has a tiny nick on the rim. See the last photo. We can find no chips, other nicks, scratches, cracks, hairlines, or repairs. There appears to be absolutely no wear to the vivid colors and no crazing. There is no wear to any of the gold trim. The set is beautiful and elegantly decorated. DIMENSIONS: The ramekin has a diameter of 3 3/4" and stands 1 1/2" high. The capacity is 4 ounces. The diameter of the saucer is 5" and its height is 9/16". HISTORY/MARKS: George Jones commenced pottery manufacturing at Bridge Works in Stoke, Staffordshire, England in early 1862. He moved the factory to Trent Pottery to a purpose built facility, later renamed Crescent Pottery. The name George Jones & Sons was adopted in 1873 and the business was incorporated in 1894. In 1929, Walter Bakewell purchased the business ending the Jones family ownership. The George Jones & Sons, Ltd. mark on these pieces is identified by the website thepotteries as used 1921-1929. Made in England was added to the mark from 1921. This dates this set to the 1921-1929 time period. There is also a mark for the importer/retailer, The Bailey, Banks & Biddle Co. of Philadelphia.
