Ilyin’s Cartographic Establishment” was founded in 1859. officers of the General Staff Alexei Afinogenovich Ilyin (1832-1889) and Vladimir Alexandrovich Poltoratsky (1830-1886). From 1859 to 1864 the publishing house was called “Chromolithography of Poltoratsky, Ilyin and Co.”, from 1864, after the departure of V.A. Poltoratsky from St. Petersburg, “A. Ilyin’s Cartographic Establishment.” Cartographic and map publishing activities became the main business of Alexei Afinogenovich, who served in the military and received the rank of lieutenant general towards the end of his life.
