Our thoughts & prayers are with his family during this difficult time. Gerald Harvey Jones, known to his patrons and peers as G. Harvey Born in 1933 in San Antonio, Texas, and grew up in the rugged hills in Central Texas G. Harvey's interest in the world of art began at a very young age. Inspired by the rugged Texas landscape that he called home, where herds of longhorn cattle were driven along the dusty trails. This background has been the inspiration for the artist’s commitment to portraying the spirit of America. Through his art, Harvey began what would eventually become a phenomenal art career by creating simple drawings and sketches of the places and people he encountered from day to day. G. Harvey later put down his pencil and developed a zeal for painting in oils. Shortly following the completion of his degree and graduating from North Texas State University, G. Harvey accepted a full-time job at the University of Texas in Austin. After only a short time there, Harvey realized that the time-consuming schedule of his career was leaving little time for him to do what he truly loved-paint. As a result, in 1963, G. Harvey decided to quit his job and fully devote himself to his passion of creating art. Just two short years later, G. Harvey was already hearing the praises of the art world after exhibiting in his first major art show. Shortly there after, The Grand National exhibition in New York and the American Artists' Professional League presented G. Harvey with their highly prestigious New Master's Award. Some of Harvey's early fans included then Texas Governor John Connally and fellow Texan President Lyndon B. Johnson. Over the course of the past five decades, the magnificent works of G. Harvey have continued to captivate and inspire people across the United States and around the world. Whether it's a glistening turn-of-the-century city street scene, a breathtaking landscape, a Western or Civil War scene-each story G. Harvey tells is always abundantly clear. Unseen emotions such as courage, determination, faith, pride and compassion are remarkably conveyed with Harvey's stunning use of lighting and contrast
