Description: A fine small antique French patch box from the late 18th century. Made of faux amber/red shell with exquisite pique work in gold, silver, and mother of pearl. The lid features a gold formed urn with overflowing flowers inside a gold border. The rectangular box has a fitted interior with two small hinged compartments, both inlaid with gold and mother of pearl. Research suggests one compartment held fake beauty marks made of muslin. The other held rouge. The larger held a tiny brush and mirror for applying. Or one could have also held a reliquary cloth relic. The condition is very good. The lid opens and closes with a tight fit. The shell shows no chipping or bad cracks. There is shrinkage around the urn and slight lifting. There may be one small piece missing to the left of the urn ? Most likely spot glue stabilization. The box measures 2.25" wide, 1.75" deep, and 1 7/8" high. FREE SHIPPING !!!!!
