Description: EXCEPTIONAL FINEST QUALITY LARGE French art pottery (porcelain) vase decorated in the Japanesque style. This impressive, large, late 19th century example features an idealized landscape incorporating a stream, foot bridge, peacock and peahen, peony flowers, branches with quince and cherry blossoms, rocks and exotic vegetation. The vase itself is substantial, 18"H x 7.5 at the widest point. It is marked FRANCE under the glazed portion of the foot, see photo #9.Vases such as this, in exotic themes, clearly the product of European imagination, were popular with the domestic market, particularly when such a large object was desired. Often, they were fitted up as accent pieces or lamps. This example is in fine condition and appears to have been fitted as a lamp early in the last century. This lamp has been refurbished, has an ebonized base, "antiqued" cap and has been fitted with high quality brass American components, a gold, rayon covered twist cord and polarized plug, overall height is 33". When fitted with a 12", or larger, silk shade this impressive and fanciful example will compliment any décor. Thank you for looking. Please view my other fine antique and custom lighting items.
