Shelley wrote the novel when she was 19 years old. The first edition was published anonymously in London in 1818. Shelley's name appears on the revised third edition, published in 1831. The title of the novel refers to a scientist who learns how to reanimate flesh and creates a being in the likeness of man out of body parts taken from the dead. Shelley's original story is the inspiration for the thirteen-part serial from the branch of Transco Syndications. The show was produced in Australia, and the first episode was broadcast on May 23rd, 1938 in Australia. Chapter 1 begins with Baron Victor Frankenstein wandering in the white icy wastes of the North Pole in search of the monster, which he has created. A ship that has been forced to wait for the thaws picks him up. It is then that Baron Frankenstein begins to tell the story of his life and his interest in science which led to his creation.
