O'Connor, Rector of North American College, Rome. In full: "It gives me pleasure to present to you Colonel and Mrs. Charles J. Russhon who will be in Rome during the middle of September. While I realize that the doctors have insisted on the Holy Father not granting any private or special audiences for the next few months because of the delicate state of his health, I would appreciate it if you will do everything possible to have Colonel and Mrs. Russhon included in a general audience, with any special consideration that is possible because they would like to receive the blessing of His Holiness." In WWII, Lieutenant Colonel CHARLES J. RUSSHON, USAF, was the official photographer of the Third Air Commando Group. He was later technical advisor for the James Bond films. POPE PIUS XII, who was 82 years of age and in poor health, died on October 9, 1958, eleven weeks after this letter was written. FRANCIS CARDINAL SPELLMAN, Archbishop of New York, had been created a Cardinal in 1946. He died in 1967. Light vertical fold touches flourish of "F". Fine condition.
