Origin. Yoruba People of Nigeria. Description. Rare, well-crafted example. Detailing is particularly impressive and testimony to the high skill level of te carver. This stunning and masterful exampleorignates from the famous Adigbologe workshop in Abeokuta, Ogun State of Nigeria. Today, "Adigbologe" refers to works of art produced by a number of esteemed artists sharing mainly familial affiliation with the highly esteemed Adigbologe atelier, rather than the works of a particular artist. The workshop was started by a well-respected Yoruba master Carver called Ojerinde who died circa 1914. The workshop was located in Itoko township of Abeokuta. Item is over 6 decades old and perhaps significantly older. Fine, dark and slightly lustrous patination. Some visible but stable cracks include a noticeable one to the bowl section. Cracks to the base shown in picture but base is stable overall. Some minor and largely insignificant degradation, Please note that that is is a well-used and very old offering. Overall, a considerable and significant collector item in good condition for age.
