Description: Offered for your consideration is a fine vintage Anton Wingen Jr. 2-piece carving knife set. The set features classic stag handles and it was made in Solingen, Germany, offering excellent quality to complement the classic appearance. It has somewhat of a contemporary design and it was likely made in the 1950's-1960's. The knife has a combination edge with the first two inches of the blade from the tip back finely serrated. Anton Wingen Jr. has always been one of my favorite Solingen makers and I have collected their knives for years. Anton Wingen Jr. ceased operations and closed their doors in the early 1990's. However, for nearly 120 years they were one of Solingen's finest makers and produced some knives of incredible quality. In addition to their own knives, Wingen also made knives for other top firms including Kershaw, Henckels, Hoffritz, and A.G. Russell. The set has seen light to moderate use and it remains in very nice condition with no problems. It has not been buffed or polished and remains original. The knife was very nicely made and offers full measures of the fine quality and old-world German craftsmanship that built the Wingen name. The forged blade has a mirrored blade finish and it's free of any errant grinder marks or harsh sharpening abrasions. The straight edge portion of the blade has been lightly sharpened, while the serrated section is the original factory edge. The blade markings remains fully visible, although they appear a bit light in the photos. The edge is free of any nicks, chips, dings, or damage and remains nice with just some normal light wear. It remains fairly sharp and the knife is ready for immediate use, although a quick touch-up will help to deliver the best performance. The needle-sharp tip is intact and original with no breaks or bending. The fork has a thick, heavy-duty shaft and the 3-1/4" tines are free of any bending or deformation. The tips remain sharp and will deeply penetrate whatever needs carved. The ferrules on both pieces are of steel as well and they're free of any splits, looseness, or marring. The handles of thick stag and they have a classic look. The stag is free of any cracks, chips, gouges, or damage and it just has a great look all the way around with little wear. The handles remain solid and free of any dishwasher fade, bleaching, or environmental damage with no stains or discoloration. The knife has a 6-1/2" blade and measures 13" in overall length. The carving fork measures 5-5/8" from the tips to the ferrule and it's 10-1/2" in overall length. A classic vintage German carving set from one of Solingen's finest makers!
