LAST DAY! Antique 1910s JE Caldwell Sterling Pitcher

Description: It is hard to find an antique pitcher this stunningly simple in style. I am not a dealer; I am selling this from my mother’s estate. It was a wedding gift to my grandparents in 1914. The mark on its base indicates it is sterling silver from the renowned J.E. Caldwell & Co in Philadelphia, which at that time had a very grand store downtown on Chestnut Street. Caldwell was the preeminent name for jewelry & silver in Philadelphia, comparable to Tiffany & Co in New York. This elegant sterling pitcher has clear authenticating marks (see photos). It weighs a hefty 25.6 oz/ 1 lb 9.6 oz/ 725.7 gr. The pitcher is impressive at a bit more than 8” high and 9” wide across the top. The silver mark on the bottom tells us that the capacity is 4½ pints, i.e. 68 oz. It is in very good used condition; my mother told us it was on the table every evening for dinner when she was growing up. There are a few dents & dings as you would imagine with any well-loved 110-year-old piece (see photos). To preserve the integrity of silver items I sell, I leave the patina intact. However, good-quality sterling will always polish up nicely to the degree you prefer. By the way, in addition to its substantial antique value, the pitcher's sterling value was nearly $800 as of this listing date.
