Description: FIGURE DRAWING: For All It's Worth by Andrew Loomis. Not dated (first published in 1943, Jisc). Chapman & Hall. Hardback,yellow-brown cloth, 31cm x 23cm, 204pp. William Andrew Loomis (June 15, 1892 – May 25, 1959) was an American illustrator, writer, and advertising designer. His commercial work featured prominently in advertising and magazines; however, Loomis is best known as the writer of a series of instructional art books printed throughout the 20th century. Figure Drawing: For All It's Worth was one of the most popular and was described by the American Academy of Art as “one of the most brilliant contributions that figure drawing has ever received”. Long after his death, Loomis's realistic style has continued to influence popular artists. Cover: yellowish-brown (ochre?) cloth, with blue box illustration on the front and blue lettering on spine. Bumped at corners, boards exposed. Cloth creased where rubbed and bumped at head and base of spine. Slight bowing, with cover lifting gently from leading edge. Small mark on lower leading edge of front cover. Cloth a little grubby. Contents: plain endpapers, clean. On reverse of fly title is a list of other books by Loomis, including Successful Drawing, which was published in 1951 (suggesting this UK edition was published after that date). Closed diagonal tear (3cm) from top left of p15, otherwise pages intact. Text bright and unmarked (no annotations, underlinings, highlighting etc.). Numerous excellent illustrations throughout text, line drawings, sketches etc. - sharp and clear. Three blank leaves at rear of book. Retailer's sticker (Heffers of Cambridge) at bottom left of rear inside cover. Binding secure. Please review the accompanying photographs, for an appreciation of this very good copy of an iconic text.
