Fifth Army White Back Patch WWII Vintage Italy Mark Clark Europe

Description: The Patch: This Auction is for 1 WWII Vintage Fifth Army shoulder patch with a white back. This patch is in good condition. It has a very nice white backing. This patch does not glow under the UV light and is guaranteed to be authentic. The History: The Fifth Army was activated on December 12th, 1942 with Lt. General Mark Clark as its commander at Oujda, Morocco. Its first combat role was in Operation Avalanche, the invasion of Italy in the Gulf of Salerno (September 9th, 1943). This was the beginning of a long fight up the Italian Peninsula. They took Naples in October and broke through the Gustav Line and captured Rome on June 4th, 1944. They continued to push north to the Armo River, broke through the Gothic Line and across the Appenines Mountains. They made a final push up the Po River Valler before Germany surrendered. As a side note, the shape of the 6860th Headquarters Detachment (T-Force) was taken from the Fifth Army Patch. Please read my auction requirements.
