Description: Ficus microcarpa 'Retusa' Specimen This is a one of a kind item, the tree pictured is the one you will receive. It is potted in our nursery's own bonsai soil mix. First three photos are the most recent (May 2024).Tree Height: 14" // Canopy Width: 28" // Trunk Thickness: 5.25" // Nebari: 11" // Pot Width: 18" The History of This Tree: This tree was first purchased by Jason in 1998 at a large box store because it was on clearance. It was labeled Retusa Ficus. He brought it to a bonsai club meeting and it was promptly ridiculed as not bonsai because all it was was two tuberous roots. It had reverse taper, no branch work, and was only about six inches tall. Jason then brought it home and put it into a larger pot. In 2003, when Jason purchased his first home, he put it in the ground to thicken the trunk. It was dug back up in 2010 and at that point he began to start working the branches and put it into a bonsai container. This tree has had 14 years of branch work and rework with a total of 26 years in training. This is Ficus microcarpa but as it was labeled 'Retusa' we call it so at the nursery. The current pot is cracked (can be seen in the pictures) and when it comes to repotting again, we will add updated photos.
