Description: Farquhar Transparent Globes 1982 The Bowl of Night Planisphere Celestial Globe This a rare transparent globe called "The Bowl of Night" manufactured by Farquhar Transparent Globes, Philadelphia for only a few years, from 1980 to 1986. This splendid device, dated 1982, identifies the celestial sky for any month and time of the year if located in the northern hemisphere. The design was originally created by H.A. Rey the creator of Curious Georgia in 1950 but was never manufactured until 1980 by Farquhar. If you enjoy navigating our celestial skies then this fun and educational artifact is for you Consisting of 3 acrylic pieces, the base is black while the attached hemisphere has an interior screen print with a nighttime landscape and cartouche dated 1980 -1982 and instructions. The removable top “bowl” is blue with a screen-printed celestial map of the stars (northern hemisphere). Diameter is about 12 inches, ( 14” if including the rim.) The stand is @ 17 inches tall. You will see a light in some of the photos. This is not a part of the device, but something I used for the pictures. I think it looks good for display purposes, so I’ll include the light, and it’s wireless remote control in this auction. Condition: Overall, very good condition with very minor scuffing to top. There is a hard to see, @ 3" internal crack at rim to clear hemisphere that does not effect the look or use of the globe. ( I have tried to point this out in photo #3, but as I said, it’s difficult to see. )To help get an accurate shipping charge, I have already packed everything up.
