Publisher's original pale blue cloth lettered in silver, text on high quality threaded paper, in original dust jacket with olive-tinted photo of Hemingway on rear panel, and "Jacket design by A" at lower corner of front flap. Very Good Plus in Very Good Plus dust jacket. Clean and tight with a previous owner's name on first free endpage (see photo). Also a very small blue dot at top page edge (see photo). No other previous owner markings. Very clean text and interior. Tips and ends sharp. Spine color very slightly rubbed and perhaps slightly faded. The paper is threaded and is of a higher quality than later editions and even of some so called first editions (see photo of copyright page: this is definitely threaded paper and there are no smudges, no dog ears, and no signs of handling to text). Correct first state pictorial dust jacket with original price of $3.00 on front flap. I believe this is the olive-tinted photo of Hemingway on rear panel as it does not look blue to my eye. Lightly worn at the crown and with a wrinkle at the top of the front panel which could be ironed out. Another slightly wrinkle on the front panel which is vertical, alongside the spine, perhaps from being once folded imperfectly, but more of a wrinkle than a crease so perhaps not, again could be ironed out. A gorgeous dust jacket, in mylar protector. The last novel Ernest Hemingway saw published, The Old Man and the Sea has proved itself to be one of the enduring works of American fiction.
