Description: Mid 20th century original watercolor by Elizabeth Jenkins 1906-1968. Landscape with Trees, signed lower right. Nicely matted and framed. Well known English artist. Dated 1955 Painter in oil and watercolour and lino-cut artist, born in Elsenham, Essex. She was educated at the Sorbonne, Paris, where she also studied art in Montmartre, then at the Central School of Arts and Crafts under Robert Jamieson. Her lino-cuts are distinctive, often of wartime subjects such as refugees, and she worked with Edith Lawrence and Claude Flight. Showed at LG, NEAC, RBA, Leicester Galleries, WIAC of which she was a member, and RSA, and had a one-man show at Beaux Arts Gallery. Won gold medal at Paris Salon. Ministry of Works bought her work. For many years she was chairman of Buckinghamshire Art Society. The painter Ann Jenkins was her daughter. Elizabeth Tuke Jenkins’ favourite subject in her oil paintings and watercolours was the garden and especially the trees at her home at Jordans, Buckinghamshire, designed in the Bauhaus style.
