Early 1970s Benge Eb Trumpet

Description: By the early 1970s, the Benge Company had been sold to King, and a factory was established in Anaheim, CA with Zig Kanstul at the helm. Horns built in this factory are considered to be really good, at least up through the very early 1980s, after which the company was sold to UMI and relocated to Eastlake Ohio. This Benge Eb trumpet belonged to Dave Evans, who passed away almost three years ago now. Many of us in the LA area studied with Dave, but we all learned so much more than just the trumpet. Dave was the consummate professional. Not only was he a magnificent player and teacher, but he had worked closely with some of the biggest names in the business including Claude Gordon, Uan Rasey, Tommy Stevens and Malcolm McNab. Heck, Dave studied under the great Jimmy Stamp! Dave was a staple at Idlewild, and a frequent clinician at the Claude Gordon camps. He always had an encouraging word. In a lesson, if you applied what he was showing you or if he heard something he liked, you'd be met with a resounding Hello!!. This Benge Eb was Dave's horn since he bought it in the early 1970s. (The serial number dates to about 1972). Whenever Daves horns needed servicing, he only ever took it to Robb Stewart, who was just down the street, or to Bob Malones old shop on S. Sepulveda. This horn was always in the triple case that sat open at his feet. In preparing this instrument for sale, I found a car key wedged deep within the bell taper! ML Bore - 0.460 4 1/2 Diameter bell Eb Slide only The pistons were replated at some point, and compression is good. The silver plate finish was heavily tarnished, but look at that gleam now! All parts appear to be original, with no major repairs that I can see. I found this horn to be very mouthpiece sensitive. Big clear sound, would be a nice soloist instrument. This trumpet is sold with the Eb slide only (Dave played any D parts on piccolo and transposed). The D slide has long since gone missing. No case. This fine brasswind has undergone a professional cleaning and inspection prior to listing. I am happy to answer any questions or provide more pictures. All sales final.
