(See picture) All of my DVD's come with a menu for easy film selection. Total run time of this DVD is 99 minutes. Film 1: "Signal 30" (1959) COLOR runtime 27 minutes Legendary "shock" driving safety film. Produced in cooperation with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and shown to millions of young drivers for over 40 years. Pretty gory and nasty because it features real life deaths. Release Date: 1959 Entered the Public Domain: 1988 Film 2: "Joy Ride - An Auto Theft" (1970s) COLOR runtime 12 minutes This film is based on an actual event. 'Joy Ride’ is surprisingly entertaining, because for one thing, it just screams 1970’s, from the opening credits to the final song. Also the performances are quite good too. The two boys in this piece are quite good as two jaded, and I mean, jaded teens trying to kill time. They go out joyriding in a car to predicable results.. I mean, this IS a teen driving scare film. Release Date: 1970 Entered the Public Domain: 1999 Film 3: Last Date (1949) B&W runtime 18 minutes Tells the story of Jeanne, a popular pretty girl until speed and an accident ruin her life. Winner of the annual award of the National Committee on Films for Safety as 1949's best non-theatrical picture. Teenicide! Everyone's doing it! Nice, slightly dumb Joanne can't choose between steady nice guy Larry, and hot-rodding Nick (Bewitched's DICK YORK!). Nick's wild driving is the talk of the town... in fact, it's all anyone talks about in this town. Larry invites Joanne to a party at Casino Lake. On the way there they listen to a DJ talking about "Teenicide... the fine art of killing yourself, and maybe someone else, before you're 20. You do it... with a car!" This gets repeated about a dozen times throughout the short. Larry shows up and talks Joanne into going for a ride around the lake. He's not worried about speeding; his Old Man taught him how to drive, and he's only been arrested three times! Of course, it all ends in tragedy, and Joanne ends up with a face so disfigured that she can't even go out with Larry (ouch!). She's had her "Last Date." Great fun, especially watching "Darren" play a bad boy, and the endless repetitions of Teenicide. Release Date: 1949 Entered the Public Domain: 1978 Film 4: The Bottle and the Throttle (1961) B&W runtime 16 minutes This sobering film is interesting to watch. The early 60's scenery is neat, especially the teen beer party. There is the usual scientific demonstration of why we get loaded when we drink too much, and also what appears to be footage of a real car accident. The narrator has no sympathy for Bill, the driver of the car that has ran over a mother and daughter. The message is as valid today as it was back then, that alcohol and gasoline don't mix. The movie does, however, imply that it's okay to have one an hour. Neat to watch. Release Date: 1961 Entered the Public Domain: 1990 Film 5: Borrowed Power (1951) B&W runtime 16 minutesJerry, star athlete and all around good guy, turns into a different type of person when he's behind the wheel of a car. When he and 2 of his friends are hauled away for speeding, Jerry finds out he's also being investigated for a possible hit and run, He is put before juvenile court where people tell what a nice guy he is except when he's driving. No one can't seem to remember hitting anything, except there was that bump.. Release Date: 1952 Entered the Public Domain: 1981 Film 6: "We Drivers" (1935 edition) (1936) B&W runtime 10 minutes This film shows good examples of road rage in it's early stages. Be on the look out for the bizarre and creepy Mad Mountain Character (old scary guy wearing a diaper who pushes cars downhill). I thought it was interesting how the right from wrong conscience was played out by Sensible Sam and his nemesis Reckless Rudolph. Release Date: 1936Entered the Public Domain: 1965 I claim ownership and rights to this media. All the films on this DVD have been researched and are copyright free or the copyrights have expired due to non renewal.
