Description: Extra Large MANZANITA Driftwood ROOT w/ Branches Aquarium Terrarium Perch Aquascape Branch Reptile Wood Ref# M4-WRB151-01 Measures Approx. 26" L x 18" W x 15" H - Note: The manzanita pictured has been debugged and fully submersed in water for approximately 14+ days with frequent changes in water. Once water logged, the wood will turn a dark reddish brown. Manzanita is resistant to the leaching of tannins into the water column, a problem often found with other aquarium driftwoods. It lasts years longer than Malaysian wood and any other "Driftwood" on the market today. It is nontoxic with neutral chemistry as to not upset the balance of any aquarium ecosystem. When used as driftwood, manzanita must often be either weighted down for several weeks or soaked first to counteract the wood's natural buoyancy when it has been dried and cured. If properly cleaned and cured, it holds up well over extended periods of submersion. Manzanita wood is also used as perches for parrots and other large pet birds. The branches of the larger species are extremely long-lasting for this purpose. Some aquarium keepers use sandblasted manzanita as driftwood in planted aquaria because of its attractive forked growth and its chemical neutrality. We trim the branches to fit in a box, leaving little spurs and small branches whenever we can, even though there is some risk of breakage during shipping. We clean and soak the wood for a few hours to a few of days to remove dirt, debris, and repel any insects. We try to provide pictures of the wood both dry and wet for your review. However, we may NOT presoak the wood for the length of time necessary to prepare for an aquatic environment. For all manzanita going into an aquatic environment, it may take several changes a water and much longer soaking time. There are many videos posted on YouTube demonstrating how to sink manzanita driftwood. It can take a few days to weeks to sink the manzanita. Further, soaking will sanitize the wood and repel any insects, moss, mold, fungi, or bacteria that may be on or inside the wood.
