Description: American etching by Don Swann (Am., 1889-1954) depicting duck / wildfowl hunters putting out the decoys on the Chesapeake by Maryland resident artist.Etching plate size: 6 x 9 inches. Overall size with framing: 14 1/2 x 17 inches. This etching has never been removed from the framing. It’s in good condition.The gold frame has wear, etc., and is a free throw in. Matted and under glass. Label extant, bottom verso. The print is numbered, titled and signed by Swann along the bottom margin in pencil.Don Swann is a listed artist. Here’s the bio on him from Artnet: “Don Swann was an important American printmaker. Known for his detailed depictions of colonial and Neo-classical American architecture, his artworks serve as both important historical documents and evidence of the technological and aesthetic advancements in the field of printmaking. Born in 1899 in Fernandina, FL, he was raised in Baltimore and went on to attend the Maryland Institute College of Art. Today, Swann's works can be found in the collections of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C., and the Smithsonian Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C., among others. Swann died in 1954 in Baltimore, MD”.They go on to write on Artnet that Don Swann studied in Munich, Germany and Italy. Well known for his historic Americana; ships, trees, U.S. Navy series, schools, and Universities. Work has been advertised and exhibited in many cities in the United States and forms part of the permanent collections of the Metropolitan Museum, Mrs. John D. Rockefeller, Jr., Franklin D. Roosevelt, U.S. Naval Museum, J. P. Morgan, Congressional Library, and other prominent collectors and connoisseurs. The Smithsonian Institute acquired 33 original etchings for the Division of Graphic Arts.
