Description: This is a DIY Crystal Radio for the am broadcast band. Shown in the antique brass 3D print, similar to plastic, this radio is also available in red or dark green (see photos). If you have a color preference, please send me a note when purchasing. Otherwise, I will send whatever is available in stock. This is NOT a finished product. You will receive all the parts and hardware, including a finished, ready to go plug in coil, like the one shown in the photos. A headset IS NOT included. You will receive a schematic diagram, showing all parts values, but there is no construction manual. A crystal set is a fairly simple project to construct, but you'll need some soldering skills and must be able to read a hand-sketched schematic diagram. I've made and sold several of these, so this is a well tested design. The following text will provide you with a the general description of a finished radio. This is a little overkill for a crystal radio receiver, but I wanted something that was a good performer. We have a local 50K watt AM station that renders a simple crystal set pretty useless without a tunable trap. So this set has a tunable trap control right on the front panel that covers the full am spectrum, just in case you have a similar situation with BCI where you live. I find that even though our local station is really powerful and pretty invasive, the trap will null out better than 95% of the interference, reducing it to a tolerable level. All this is possible with one jumbo size plug-in coil form that I have custom made for this radio. The color of the magnet wire may vary, depending on what I have in stock, so it could be red, green or copper color. The circuit uses two L/C tuned circuits, which are paralleled to one front panel control, using a dual 270pf capacitor. A separate control adjusts the antenna coupling, with another control that is for the BCI trap tuning, with circuitry located inside the chassis. Headphone volume is quite adequate for most medium power am stations, with good selectivity that is made possible by the dual tuned circuit, along with the adjustable BCI trap. This radio requires high impedance headphones. The old standard 2 to 4K ohm types will also work well, as will Piezo headphone types. No headphones are included in this listing. You will need to supply your own headset in order to operation this radio. An external antenna of at least 75 to 100 ft. is also necessary, along with a good earth ground. The size of the radio chassis is about 180 x 80 x 65mm. SHIPPING TO THE UNITED STATES ONLY.
