[50cm] x 24" h. [60cm] image area. frame: 28"w. x 31 h. -1/2" x 2" d. Dimitri Romanovsky Born 1887 southern Russia. Died New York 1971.artist lived and worked in New York having a studio at Carnegie Hall. artist studied with William Chase and Robert Henri.the artist is best known for florals portraits and nudes. This painting done when artist was 27 years old may have been a parent or grandparent. or a close relative. the sitter wears typical Russian couture from the 1914 period. heavy on embroidery the piece was painted in 1914 by date under signature. as such before the Russian revolution. I suspect the piece came with artist upon his immigration to U.S. and was subsequently around 1930sre framed and restored with the canvas being laid on Masonite backing to strengthen the canvas. the piece will need minor conservation and re framing.the original as found frame dates to the 1930s art deco period. and has various age damage./ see photos. the piece was acquired in an antique shop in Los Angeles. in 2018.
