Label on back dated: 6/21/96.David Vega Chavez (American, 1947 – 2021)David Vega Chavez was born in Deming, NM August 16, 1947.. When David was eight years old the family moved to Albuquerque. He graduated from Manzano High School and the University of New Mexico. During his college years he became involved in community theater, which lead him to become a professional choreographer, director, and dancer. His extensive career included numerous television, musical theater, motion picture, and dance credits. Upon his return to New Mexico as Artistic Director with the New Mexico Ballet Company, he began painting seriously. His paintings capture the magic of New Mexico. Chavez, who was born in Deming, began drawing and painting in high school but eventually moved in another direction spending much of his early life involved in choreography, directing and dancing in the motion picture industry, television and the Las Vegas nightclub scene. In the early 90’s upon returning to New Mexico, he began painting seriously again and has never looked back. His favorite mediums are Watercolor, Acrylic and Egg Tempura and he enjoys painting the magic of the New Mexican light from sultry summer days to the cold, barren landscapes of northern New Mexico winters.
