I was asked to come up with something for the Wildside Mystery Doubles series, and this is what I had: Three Roman detective stories, two featuring Pliny the Younger as the detective (one of these appeared in ALFRED HITCHCOCK'S MYSTERY MAGAZINE, the others in Mike Ashley anthologies), two Shakespearean mysteries, a Byzantine story, and three admittedly fantastic SHERLOCK HOLMES stories, one involving the supernatural and even Lovecraftian elements, another written as if one of the unwritten cases of Dr. Watson had been farmed out to Lord Dunsany, who did it as a Jorkens story, and the third an outrageous genre-blender, a genuine (and very likely the only) alternate historical vampire cat detective story. This is #2 in the Wildside Mystery Double series. On the other side is a collection of historical mysteries, THE JUDGMENT OF THE GODS, by ROBERT REGINALD. His stories are novellas, one set in ancient Assyria in the time of King Sennacherib, and the others medieval mysteries with William of Occam as the detective.
