The pencil with 0.5mm lead advances.I couldn't pull the pencil apart and I left it alone so I didn't break it. The ballpoint writes blue and included is a extra Cross blue refill. The desk base is 12"x4"x3/4" with no scratches and it maybe walnut or mahogany. The clock was made in France and I did not check it to see if it worked.Jim Diemer is on the pen and pencil and the base. It looks to be a very elegant desk set and would be nice in any home.
