The idea of the HOS was to realize the borders of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) from the Second World War. The composition of the HOS units was made up of Croats from the homeland and BiH as well as those from emigration. Some foreign nationals, including professional soldiers, who trained HOS members, came in.
