Battle of Murfreesboro Click image to enlarge Description Vicksburg,Ms March 22nd 1867 McAfee, John, Pvt. 10th Regiment Mississippi volunteers on Company F Private McAfee was committed to serving 12 months and re-inlisted in Company E 9th regiment Mississippi volunteers,which was re-organized in Pensacola,Florida by General Jack ( James) Chalmers in November of 1861. The letter states Private McAfee was a good soldier and served gallantly in many engagements. He was killed at the battle of Murfreesboro ( Battle of Stones River Dec 31 1862 through Jan 2, 1863) while acting with conspicuous bravery which won for his name a place upon the Roll of Honor.
