Melodic line shows the highest sounding voice of the chord with a chord box (grid) above it. If you simply play the chord boxes in a row you've got the line....the melodic line gives you the rhythm. Or, if you read music, you still follow the chord boxes but can be aware of the highest sounding voice via the staff line. It's a pretty cool system that anyone can play. If you are an intermediate or advanced improviser with single lines, this is a good introduction to a system for improvising in lines of chords.
