ITEM DESCRIPTION: Here is a Beautiful, Rare & Very Cool Vintage Circa 1964 Small European Original Oil on Canvas Portrait Painting of an Untitled ‘Young Auburn-haired Girl with Red Bow’, in a Short Bouffant-style hairdo, signed by the artist, ‘Carina’ (Unknown, 20th C.- ), whose signature appears in the lower-left image corner. If anyone out there in the worldwide eBay community knows who this artist is and can positively identify them 100%, please let us know and we can add it to the Item Description, thanks! We currently have a couple other small portrait paintings by the artist ‘Carina’ so please have a look! The painting is similar to the well-known listed artist, Margaret Keane’s (American, 1927-2022) “Big Eyes” paintings. Though ours isn’t as big as some of Keane’s eyes in her paintings, our piece does feature slightly larger innocent-looking eyes & a cute look on her face, with maybe a little bit of melancholy perhaps. The painting was previously tacked to a stretcher at one point a very long time ago and was removed (likely for import through Customs), but is being sold loose and can easily be re-stretched or lined if need be, and framed-up beautifully. The painting features some heavier impasto paint here & there, mostly around the head of the girl, to basically frame her head. From old gallery labels in our archive, the painting dates to circa 1964 when Walter Meibohm purchased several Carina paintings during his annual European trip that year—Walter Meibohm purchased dozens of paintings on his yearly art-buying trips to Europe that he took starting from the late 1950s-1978, and all of the paintings were typically brought back off the stretcher either rolled or flat depending, which was easier & cheaper for Walter to do upon returning & importing them through Customs into the U.S.. Size & Condition of the Paintings: The Paintings size itself without margins is 10-1/2” x 8-5/8” and is in Excellent Rare++ condition for its vintage age—fresh, rich & wonderful color! No damage at all on these lovely piece. This Painting has been in one of our archive drawers amongst other paintings since it was purchased by Walter Meibohm and hasn’t seen the light of day in all this time—it’s as beautiful as the day it was painted.
