Script: Latin Lettering: 1 CENT 1938 - 1947 CANADA Engraver: George Kruger Gray Edge Plain Royal Canadian Mint, Ottawa, Canada (1908-date) Comments The Canadian Mint needed new dies for its pennies in 1948 due to the independence of India from Great Britain (it was necessary to remove the "ET IND: IMP"). But these dies would not arrive early enough for the demand. So the Mint added little maple leaves beside the '7' of 1947, to signify the year 1948. Thanks to this, the 1947 coin saw 3 different variants: 1) Blunt '7' 2) Maple leaf (ML) Blunt '7' 3) Maple leaf (ML) Pointed '7' To determine if the seven is pointed or blunt, look at the top right section of that number. Two different alloys were used during the different years of minting this coin: Alloy 1: 1937-1941; .955 copper, .030 tin, .015 zinc Alloy 2: 1942-1952; .980 copper, .005 tin, .015 zinc ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• 1 Cent - George VI without ET IND:IMP: Features LocationCanada Issuing entityRoyal Canadian Mint KingGeorge VI (1936-1952) TypeStandard circulation coin Years1948-1952 Value1 Cent 0.01 CAD = USD 0.0074 CurrencyCanadian dollar (1858-date) CompositionBronze (.980 Cu, .005 Sn, .015 Zn) Weight3.24 g Diameter19.05 mm Thickness1.65 mm ShapeRound TechniqueMilled OrientationMedal alignment ↑↑ NumberN# 434 Help ReferencesKM# 41, Schön# 40 Obverse Head of King George VI facing left.
