Description: c1907 Postcard BLUFF CITY Alaska Shoreline Tents Thawing Equipment Nome Area Gold Mining Town Original vintage color postcard from circa 1907, early in the town’s history From the web: Bluff, also known as Agookauchuk, was a 20th-century mining town in Nome Census Area, Alaska. It was built at the mouth of Daniels Creek on the north shore of Norton Sound on the Seward Peninsula in the summer of 1900, as a result of the Nome Gold Rush. The town was located 55 miles southeast of Nome. Bluff appeared once on the 1940 U.S. Census as an unincorporated village and it had 9 people. . . It has not appeared since. A few buildings are still extant at the townsite. Published by Portland Post Card Co No 9016 . . . (Charlton started publishing for the Lewis & Clark Expo and the Portland Post Card Company began about 1906 and published until about 1910. Portland Post Card Company became an official publisher for the Alaska Yukon Pacific Expo in Seattle in 1909.)
