Description: I recently purchased a large collection of late 1700's and early 1800's porcelain from a prolific, affluent serious collector. Most items have printed titles or mottos. Everything is in outstanding condition and there are many rare and unusual pieces. Please see my other others -- as always, combined purchased charged only actual shipping. Antique mid-1800’s Staffordshire Transferware. Light black or dark brown transferware central motif surrounded by molded daisy border. I could not identify the maker’s hallmark, which is an impressed asterisk (see photo #x). Central motif shows the aforementioned scene from the book. Title reads "Uncle Tom's Cabin ~ Haley's Bargain for Eliza's Child". Summary of this scene appears at the end of this description. Condition: Good giftable condition. Only noticeable issues are two hairline cracks and crazing on the underside. One hairline on the front is visible in photo #15. The second hairline is faintly visible on the underside only. No discoloration associated with the crazing. Transfer intact without erosion. No other chips, flakes, breaks, mends, repairs, blemishes, or mentionable boo-boo's. Don't feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges except one previously mentioned hairlines. Dimensions: 6-1/8” Diameter. 0.75” Tall. Unpacked weight 4.4 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase.Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt. Cliffnotes Summary of Chapter #1 from Uncle Tom's Cabin:On a winter afternoon in the early 1850s, two white men, Shelby and Haley, discuss business in Shelby's dining room on a Kentucky farm. Shelby is preparing to sell two slaves to Haley, a slave-trader: Someone named Tom, a capable, honest, Christian, is one. Haley demands another, and when a small boy comes into the room, Haley says he wants the child, too. The boy's mother collects the child, and Haley remarks on her marketability, but Shelby refuses to sell her. But the mother, Eliza, hears the trader offer to buy the child and tells her mistress that she fears little Harry will be sold. Mrs. Shelby, not knowing of Shelby's indebtedness, assures Eliza that Shelby would never do such a thing.
