Description: Cottolene made to utilize leavings (cottonseed oil and beef tallow) beginning in 1868 and continuing thru the mid 20th century was marketed as a "Health Food" and in competition with Crisco when Crisco came to market. Reaches cooking point without smoking or sputtering-used as a replacement (at the time of the card) for lard and butter no mention of its later competitor Crisco which helps to date it. There were a number of different ad cards for Cottolene but only a few that featured a Negro. At the bottom of the information on the back of the card is a recipe for New England Doughnuts. Will be sent between cardboard for safety.
