Description: My late sister Betsy, whose bowl this was, loved featuring regional craftspeople in her Pittsburgh, PA shop, the "region" including Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Ohio. Fioriware by Zanesville, Ohio craftswoman Maddy Fraioli and her husband Howard Peller, definitely fit the bill. Fraioli was a New Jersey native who didn't fall in love with pottery until she went to the University of Illinois and then became a studio potter. Her encouraging husband and she set up shop making Fioriware -- 1986-2006 -- in Zanesville, Ohio, a skip and a jump from my sister in Pittsburgh. They closed the shop for the same reason so many gifted and meticulous American artists do: “It was impossible to compete with ‘off shore’ production,” Fraioli says. Maddy’s not done. She still makes items under the name "Rosehill Pottery" in Rosehill, Ohio, and she conducts an art camp in Zanesville for kids every year. This particular mixing bowl is bold, bright, and fun. It has what I would call a sea green 1" high collar with a generous underside for gripping, which is important since this is a hefty bowl at just over 3 pounds with nothing in it. The 3D swirling base is a bright rich butter yellow, with some orange and red tones if you look at it under certain light. It tapers down to a very stable foot with the classic Fioriware stamp. Maddy and Howard started after 1986, there's no concern about lead content, just joy. Thanks for looking!Rick
