Description: Biagio Pinto, American - 1911- 1989, Modernist untitled Oil on Canvas Art: 12" x 15" Unframed Estate stamp verso An early flower painting by Biagio Pinto. It appears to be a slight variation of a painting in the same vase in the Barnes Collection in Philadelphia. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Biagio, along with his brothers Angelo and Salvatore, developed a passion and talent for art at a young age and enrolled in the Barnes Foundation’s art education program. Dr. Albert Barnes was an avid supporter of the three brothers from the outset and awarded them generous scholarships for travel and study. While Barnes supported the brothers early on, others took notice when Barnes purchased four of their paintings for his collection—the Pinto’s were the first Philadelphia artists to earn such an honor. Each brother had a unique painting style, of which Barnes wrote: “The work of the Pinto brothers shows that they have studied the traditions of painting intelligently, have the sensitivity to grasp the individual contributions of the great masters, and have been able to make what they have learned the medium in which they express their own temperaments and personalities.”
