Description: Bench and Bar of Colonial Easton by H. J. Steele, President of the Northampton County Historical Society. Read before the Society at the Annual Meeting in Easton, January 27. 1931. Bench and Bar term is used in a collective sense as indicating the judges of a judicial tribunal and the lawyers who are authorized to appear before that tribunal and conduct the trial of cases. The period covered is from March 11, 1752, the time of the creation of Northampton County and its first court in Easton, down to the time of the inauguration of the Federal Government on March 4, 1789. This is a rare copy of a 14 page pamphlet published by the Society, probably in 1931. Image is of this copy. This copy is only acceptable as it has edge and corner wear, and yellowing/ browning around the cover edges. The cover is almost detached, bound only on the upper inch of the spine near the staple. There are several bits of underlining and of lines drawn in the margin down the sides of some paragraphs. There are also two handwritten comments, one on each of two pages.
