Description: DIMENSIONS: With Frame: HEIGHT: 20 Inches WIDTH: 13 1/2 Without Frame: HEIGHT: 15 Inches WIDTH: 8 Inches This Batik was hand drawn and signed by Mr. Kiwanuka. He is fast gaining recognition as the top African American artist as well as the premier Batik artist in Kenya. Batiks are produced in Kenya by brushing hot liquid wax onto a piece of cotton cloth in the desired pattern. The canvas is then dipped into a dye which adheres to all of the areas that are not covered by the wax. The wax is then removed and reapplied repeated for each color used. This is a tedious time consuming endeavor that yields exceptional art. Animals, village scenes, landscapes, seascapes and abstracts compose much of the subject matter. The colors are natural and brilliant! The underlying batik background has been enhanced by a hand painted scene.
