Many of you probably remember me for my hand crafted Birdhouses, Duck houses, Bird and Deer Feeders etc. Well, I had to step away for a few years to go to another job, but I again have the time to bring you back my quality cedar products you have come to know and love! These are not 5/8”, they are a SOLID 3/4” thick. The listing pictures may show 1 or several houses in one photo. This listing is for one Owl House Details of my Barn Owl Nesting Box. This Barn Owl nesting box exceeds the needs of the Barn Owl. It’s a SUPER COMFY Approx 22” Long x 16½-17½ High and 16½-17½ (all measurements are approx) Deep!!! The nesting area alone (separate from the entrance) is approx 16" x 14 1/2" !!!! Plenty of room for both parents and their young ones. Depending on the wood density, these average only 20-28lbs on average!! The entrance hole is 6" circular standard to provide protection from predators including raccoons and Great Horned Owls. Additionally, there is an interior divider separating the box into two compartments. Should a predator be able to reach into the box, they will be unable to reach around to the owl or owlets on the other side of the divider. I’ve also added a “Jump board” that crosses all the way to the back of the owl house. Adults can easily jump over the board, however, the young ones cant, thus keeping them within eyesight of the parents. The entrance hole is also placed in consideration of young owlets in order to prevent them from being pushed out of the box by others behind them – especially as they all seek to be fed first. Special "grip" Kerf cuts on the front of the box underneath the entrance hole helps the adult owl gain access to the box. No perches exist outside of the box as they could provide convenient perches for predators or for young owlets, thus exposing them to predators. The panels on the bottom of the box are removable and allows for easy access to the interior - making clean out a simple and quick task. Simply remove the screws and the panels come out. Lastly, there are vents cut in the upper panel that allow air flow to the nesting area. This box design is above and beyond others you might see. This nesting box is HUGE! Ranchers, farmers, and vineyards have found these useful for their own natural pest control. Dimensions on box are approx 22" long, 16½-17½” wide, and almost 17” tall (roof overhangs box by approx 1 ½” in front). Go Ahead, Compare that to the others! The enterance is separate from the nesting area. Its kinda like their own master bedroom at a massive 16” x 14 ½”!!! That’s Just the nesting area! As Far as nesting material, Barn Owls can and will find their own nesting material. But you can give them a head start by throwing some older leaves inside on the floor of the box when mounting will make the Box more appealing to the owl. If you need to replace the nesting material, pine shavings are the safest option. No paint or varnish should be applied to the interior. Use of these finishes on the interior of the Box could deter Barn Owls from nesting. Where Should I Put My Box? Barn owls generally prefer open fields and meadows with a plentiful supply of small animals. The owl generally eats voles, deer mice, house mice, field mice, gophers, and small birds, so the box should be placed where there will be a steady diet of these. For example, on farms with cropland bordered by trees, small animals will be in the area between the tree line and the crop line. Placing boxes in this area will attract the owls hunting there. And if you have a Barn, inside or Outside the barn is awesome! Its how they got their name of course! The back mounting panel at the top is 3/4" solid ( if you are in a really windy area, adding a 2x4 or something similar in thickness will add added strength for secure mounting). You can remove the bottom panels before mounting to get the screws in from the bottom as well if you wish. This will ensure a Solid Secure mount. When it’s outside it can get wet or dry, which can cause it to have the chance to split, warp, crack, blow away, etc. Nothing leaves my shop that I didn’t craft myself with the best quality cedar I can supply to you, so please rest assure!I dry and store my cedar outside, sometimes there can be graying on the boards... Anything that is grayor has a gray tint to it will be placed towards the back, bottom or inside of the bluebird house. Ive also had requests for all gray (aged look birdhouses)..
