G. Broutian was born in Alexandrapol (now Gyumri). After the occupation of Alexandrapol by the Turks in 1920 and sovietification of Armenia, G. Broutian became deeply engaged in the affairs of organization and development of cultural activities in his native town. In 1937 he moved to Yerevan, where continued his creative activity, illustrated many books for children, school books. G. Broutian's creative work majority consists of portraits and scenes of native folk life. Many of his works were exhibited in Alexandrapol, Yerevan, Tiflis & Moscow.
