The underside is impressed with the James Deakin & Sons Ltd. trademark and accompanying workshop model number: 9394. The Deakin firm had its origin in Sheffield, England, in 1866 but was officially converted to a limited liability company under the above noted moniker in 1897. The firm maintained this name until 1935 when it merged with various other businesses and subsequently folded in 1938. Condition: The tray of the inkwell dips slightly, as though subdued by some past weight or pressure. An aged patina is present. The glass of one ink well is cracked and the lid is slightly bent.
