Description: Antique English Doctor's File box or Medical case. English, 1800's, hand made with dovetailed joinery. Box was enlarged in height at some point by adding a 2 inch section all around the top edge and the hinges and snap latches were moved up to accommodate the change. The box has lightly decorated brass straps on the domed lid. Brass hardware - hinges and latches. Wooden bail carrying handle. At some point it was lined in a decorative paper with only a few spots of the paper remaining. Small chip to the back side right upper corner and the lower right base corner. Please see pics! This box measures about 18 inches tall by 13 inches wide and 10 inches deep. Unsure what kind of wood but it is pretty lightweight for its size. Great display piece for a Victorian Office Space or Medical Office!
