GURU RIMPOCHE THANKA,NEPAL An old thanka of Guru Rimpoche(Padmasambhava), the tantric Guru who in the 8thc was brought by the Tibetan king Thi-Sron Detsan to Tibet to help found monasteries, & to teach the tantra doctrine. He stayed in Tibet for fifty years & is said to have subdued the malignant demons, & converted them to become defenders of the Dharma. This thanka is from the 19th or early 20thc, & features two Apsaras at the side & a Shaman in the middle .It is well used, perhaps Tamang and with the Tibetan mantra "Om ah hum badzar Gur Padma siddhi hum" on the back..
