Description: Offered is an Antique Prattware Shakespeare Souvenir Dessert/Salad Plate by F & R Pratt of Fenton, England. This piece shows in detail the residence of Shakespeare's wife, Anne Hathaway whom Shakespeare wed in 1582 when she was 26 and he was 18. the image is rimmed in a vivid deep orange with Pratt's signature heavy gold banding of acanthus leaves on the edge of the plate. It measures approx. 7.5 inches in diameter. The plate has some wear to the gold on the rim. Please examine the photos to see a full description and condition. This is a rare and lovely piece of history for Shakespeare or English literature buffs. The F & R Pratt Company was the first pottery company to master a four-color transfer underglaze process in their pottery. Prattware became quite well known in the 1800s for creating beautiful images on pot lids and other wares. The Company was started in 1847 and ran under the watchful eye of Felix Pratt until his death in 1885. The transferware process was an intricate one that Pratt and his head engraver, Jesse Austin were the first to develop and market.
