Description: This is an antique print from the early to mid-1800s that features a Portuguese soldier in military uniform. The artist, Reverend William Bradform of St. John's College, Oxford, was a brigade's chaplain in an expedition to Spain and Portugal in 1808 and 1809. He created several illustrations of the country, characters, and costumes en route with the British army. Hand-colored aquatint prints were made from his drawings, published, and bound into books. This hand-colored aquatint print has the following: "I. Clark sculp." and publication line: "London, Published by J. Booth." It does not show the publication date, but it might be beneath the frame, which I chose not to open. The "print[ing] for John Booth" was likely done between 1821 and 1835. The aquatint is in fair condition. It's slightly yellowed over time, and there are a few oil-like stains in the top right corner and some stain on the bottom matting. The frame is seemingly older. Framed, the print measures approximately 13 5/8" across and 16 1/2" tall. It is a rare item. Please refer to the pictures. I do my best to be transparent with my listings, so feel free to ask questions and for additional photos.
