Description: Rare antique large mohair teddy bear purchased at an estate sale filled with many antique items. After much research I believe this is an antique Knickerbocker mohair teddy bear. The triangular shape of his head and cupped ears lead me to believe this is an early knickerbocker bear. Head and limbs are fully jointed with felt pads on all four paws. Original solid glass eyes. Cone shaped muzzle. Nose and mouth made with black vertical threading. Hump back. Upon inspection it feels like he is stuffed with different types of stuffing. His head is stuffed with excelsior or straw and limbs a bit softer stuffing like kapok? I feel a hard button like shape underneath his fur in the center of his lower back. I think it might be a old growler mechanism that no longer works. It could also just be excess body material that was sewn that way? Overall condition is very good for its age. There are a few minor bald spots where he's lost some fur. A few worn spots on the tips of his velveteen paw pads. There is a hole on his right shoulder at the seam. An exposed large stitch behind his left ear makes me think he might have had hole that was repaired No remnants of a tag my guess is that chest tags came after this guy was manufactured. He would be happiest in a non-smoking home with no live pets or small children. Preferably with an avid collector who will appreciate his craftsmanship and charm :) See photos and ask any questions. Happy to send more pictures too
